Velvet Girl is a melodic trance project created by Belgian electronic music producer Laurent Véronnez, who is best known internationally as Airwave. Through Velvet Girl, Véronnez explored a vocal-led style combining progressive trance, atmospheric melodies and emotionally expressive club production.

Véronnez began releasing electronic music during the 1990s and became an important contributor to Belgium’s progressive and trance scenes. His extensive catalogue includes work under names such as Airwave, The Green Martian, Lolo, Planisphere and Fire & Ice.

The Velvet Girl project became particularly recognised for Velvet, a melodic trance record released around the beginning of the 2000s. Its combination of a flowing progressive arrangement, evocative vocals and uplifting trance elements led to releases through labels including Additive and Bonzai.

Further Velvet Girl productions included Walking in Sunshine, Summertime, Promise U Heaven, Satisfy and A New Dawn. Collectively, these releases established the project as a distinctive part of Véronnez’s extensive body of work and the wider Belgian trance movement.
