Angie Brown is a British singer and songwriter from Brixton, South London, renowned for her powerful, soulful voice and extensive contribution to house, dance and popular music.
She achieved international recognition as the featured vocalist on Bizarre Inc’s 1992 anthem I’m Gonna Get You. The record reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the defining British dance tracks of the decade. Brown continued working with Bizarre Inc on releases including Took My Love.
In 1994, she collaborated with producer Steve Rodway, better known as Motiv 8, on Rockin’ for Myself. The track reached the UK Top 20 and further established her as one of the most recognisable voices within British dance music.
Brown also contributed vocals to Mark Morrison’s international hit Return of the Mack. Her extensive recording and live-performance career includes work with artists such as Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, Neneh Cherry, Lisa Stansfield, Beverley Knight, the Rolling Stones, Happy Mondays, Stereophonics and Fatboy Slim.
Later projects have continued to introduce her voice to new audiences. These include Deeper in Love with Kissy Sell Out and appearances on The Mack by Nevada, Mark Morrison and Fetty Wap. In 2014, she appeared on The Voice UK and performed I’m Gonna Get You.
Through decades of studio sessions, collaborations and energetic live performances, Angie Brown has remained an important and much-loved voice within British dance-music culture.
