Southside Spinners are a Dutch electronic music project best known for the enduring trance anthem “Luvstruck”. The group brought together producers Marco Verkuylen, better known as Marco V, Benjamin Kuyten, also known as Benjamin Bates, and Jesse and Thomas Hagenbeek.

First released in the Netherlands in 1998, “Luvstruck” combined an instantly recognisable melodic hook with the driving energy of late-1990s European trance. Its crossover appeal helped the track move beyond underground club culture and become one of the era’s most memorable dance releases.

The record initially entered the UK Singles Chart in 1999 before gaining wider recognition through its inclusion in the soundtrack to the film “Kevin & Perry Go Large”. Reissued in 2000, “Luvstruck” reached number nine on the UK Singles Chart and became firmly associated with the energy and optimism of turn-of-the-millennium club culture.

Although frequently described as a trance anthem, the track also carries elements of progressive house and the harder-edged European club sound developing at the time. Its distinctive melody has allowed it to remain immediately recognisable across successive generations of dance music listeners.

The continued demand for “Luvstruck” has led to numerous remixes and reissues. Its lasting appeal reflects the strength of the original composition as well as its importance to listeners who experienced the record in clubs, on compilations and through the defining dance soundtrack of “Kevin & Perry Go Large”.
