Todd Terje

Norwegian producer blending space disco, house and playful analogue synthesis

Todd Terje is a Norwegian DJ, songwriter and producer whose distinctive music combines disco, house, electronica, funk and vintage synthesiser sounds. Born Terje Olsen in Mjøndalen, Norway, he adopted the Todd Terje name as a playful tribute to American house producer Todd Terry.

Terje first attracted international attention during the 2000s through a series of edits and remixes that introduced forgotten disco, funk and electronic recordings to contemporary dance floors. His detailed production style and unconventional selections helped establish him as a leading figure within Norway’s influential space-disco movement.

Original productions including Eurodans, Ragysh and Snooze 4 Love strengthened his reputation, but the 2012 release Inspector Norse became his defining track. Its joyful melody, intricate synthesis and irresistible rhythm earned widespread acclaim and introduced his music to a much larger international audience.

In 2014, Terje released his debut studio album It’s Album Time. The album brought together disco, lounge music, electronic pop and cinematic influences, and included a version of Robert Palmer’s Johnny and Mary featuring Bryan Ferry.

Known for combining musical precision with humour and warmth, Todd Terje has developed a catalogue that sounds both technically accomplished and effortlessly enjoyable. His work remains an important part of modern Scandinavian electronic and disco music.

Vinyl releases

Originally released in 2012, It’s the Arps was the first release on Todd Terje’s Olsen Records label. All four tracks were created using the influential ARP 2600 analogue synthesiser, which inspired the EP’s title.

The record includes Inspector Norse, Terje’s uplifting and internationally celebrated space-disco anthem. Myggsommer explores his affection for quirky electronic exotica, while the two-part Swing Star moves between fast arpeggiated sequences and relaxed Balearic disco.

The 2026 repress returns the complete four-track EP to 12-inch vinyl, retaining the distinctive sleeve artwork created by Norwegian illustrator Bendik Kaltenborn.
