Pulp
ulp are an English alternative rock band formed in Sheffield in 1978. Led by vocalist and songwriter Jarvis Cocker, the group developed a distinctive sound combining indie rock, glam-influenced pop, keyboards and vivid storytelling about British life.
After building a dedicated following throughout the 1980s, Pulp achieved wider recognition with their 1994 album His ’n’ Hers. Their breakthrough continued with Different Class in 1995, an album that reached number one in the UK and won the Mercury Music Prize.
Featuring songs including Common People, Disco 2000, Mis-Shapes and Something Changed, Different Class became one of the defining British albums of the decade. Jarvis Cocker’s observational lyrics, unmistakable vocal delivery and charismatic performances helped distinguish Pulp from their contemporaries.

Albums and musical development
Pulp followed their commercial breakthrough with This Is Hardcore in 1998. Darker and more cinematic than its predecessor, the album explored fame, ageing, disappointment and the pressures that followed the band’s sudden success.
The group released We Love Life in 2001 before entering an extended period away from recording. Pulp later returned to live performance and reunited again for a successful series of concerts beginning in 2023.
In 2025, Pulp released More, their first new studio album in 24 years. The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, introducing a new chapter in the band’s history while retaining the storytelling and emotional detail associated with their best-known work.
